Biography
Sound Intermedia (Ian Dearden and David Sheppard) have created many sound designs for opera including Stockhausen’s Helicopter String Quartet(Birmingham Opera Company, 2012), Britten’s Peter Grimes on the Beach (Aldeburgh Productions, 2013), Francesconi’s Quartett (ROH, 2014), Davies’s Cave (London Sinfonietta and ROH, 2018), Orfeo and The Return of Ulysses (ROH at the Roundhouse, 2015/18), Higgins’s The Monstrous Child(ROH Linbury, 2019),Venables’ Denis and Katya (Music Theatre Wales and London Sinfonietta, 2019), Birtwistle’s The Mask of Orpheus (ENO, 2019), La bohème (ENO Drive and Live at Alexandra Palace, 2020) and Current, Rising(ROH, 2021), a hyper-reality opera combining VR with a multisensory set. They have also worked closely with Irish National Opera on designs for the trilogy of works by Enda Walsh and Donnacha Dennehy. Beyond opera, they use the latest immersive sound technology to bring visceral experiences of music to wider audiences, exploiting technology to address issues of sustainability.
