Biography
Pierre Martin Oriol studied contemporary literature and journalism and is a video designer for theater and opera. Theatre includes productions by Julien Gosselin (Les Particules élémentaires, 2666, Joueurs/Mao II/Les Noms, Le Passé, Sturm und Drang, Extinction, Maldoror), Tiphaine Raffier (France-fantôme, La réponse des Hommes, Némésis), Christophe Rauck (La Faculté des rêves, Dissection d’une chute de neige), Adama Diop (Fajar ou l’Odyssée de l’homme qui rêvait d’être poète) and Peter Sellars (Roman de Fauvel). Opera includes 4.48 Psychosis (ROH, UK Theatre Award), Trouble in Tahiti (Dutch National Opera), The Time of Our Singing (La Monnaie, Brussels, 2022 International Opera Award) and Denis & Katya (Opera Philadelphia). Additional highlights include directing My Favorite Piece Is the Goldberg Variations with musician Andreas Borregaard and composer Philip Venables (Bergen Festival, 2021), video production for Stockhausen’s Sonntag aus Licht with Le Balcon (Philharmonie de Paris, 2023), video production for “La Grenouillère - Hors les murs,” an event by chef Alexandre Gauthier (2024) and video and set design for Noé Soulier’s Close Up (Avignon Festival, 2024). He has also directed short films Plus noire sera la nuit and Détruire and is currently directing Créatine, a performance adapted from Victor Malzac’s novel.
