Biography

Austrian choreographer/director Otto Pichler has worked with opera companies in Paris (Der Ring des Nibelungen), Amsterdam (La forza del destino, Turandot), Dresden (Penthesilea, Die Fledermaus), Cologne (War and Peace), Hanover (My Fair Lady), Salzburg Festival (Mitridate, re di Ponto, Orphée aux enfers, Hotel Metamorphosis) and Brussels (Aida). His choreography for Barrie Kosky includes Saul (Glyndebourne Festival), Le Coq d’or (Festival d’Aix-en-Provence), The Fiery Angel (Bayerische Staatsoper), Les Boréades (Opéra de Dijon), The Nose (The Royal Opera), Carmen (Oper Frankfurt, The Royal Opera) and, at Komische Oper Berlin, Candide, Fiddler on the Roof, L’Orfeo, Chicago and West Side Story. His directing credits include Hello Dolly!, Jekyll and Hyde, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Merry Widow and The Gypsy Princess. Recent and forthcoming collaborations with Evgeny Titov at Vienna State Opera include choreography for Iolanta and, in 2026/27, Pique Dame. Other 2026/27 highlights include directing Alles Schwindel/Pure Hogwash in Nuremberg.
