Biography

Set designer Étienne Pluss was born in Geneva and studied at the University of Art (UDK) in Berlin. His recent engagements include Salome at the Metropolitan Opera, La bohème at Paris Opera, The Makropulos Case at Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Samson at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Turandot at Vienna State Opera (all with Claus Guth). Other highlights include Wozzeck at Lyon Opera, Rigoletto at Lorraine National Opera, Hamlet at the Komische Oper Berlin and Die Passagierin at Graz Opera. Other recent engagements include Richard III and King Lear at D’Haus in Düsseldorf with director Evgeny Titov, Louise at Aix and Il trittico at Salzburg Festivals, Così fan tutte and Giulio Cesare at Frankfurt Opera. His awards include the Musiktheaterpreis for Bluthaus at Bayerische Staatsoper and the 2019 Faust Preis for Violetter Schnee at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. This is his Royal Opera debut. He makes his 2025/26 Royal Opera debut with Ariodante
