Biography

Peter Mumford has created designs for opera houses, dance companies and theatres worldwide. Recent work includes Within the Golden Hour (Stuttgart), Falstaff (Greek National Opera), Dance of Death (Orange Tree Theatre), Grace Pervades and As You Like It (Theatre Royal Bath), Indian Ink (Hampstead Theatre/Theatre Royal Bath), Roberto Devereux (Bergamo), The Promise (Chichester Festival Theatre), Boys on the Verge of Tears (Soho Theatre) and Orfeo ed Eurydice (Hannover). He has received Olivier Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and Best Lighting Design for The Bacchai (National Theatre) and a Knight of Illumination Award for Sucker Punch (Royal Court). In 2019 he was nominated for two Tony Awards: Best Lighting Design for The Ferryman and for King Kong (New York). He also directed the concert staging and designed lighting and projection for Der Ring des Nibelungen (South Bank Sky Arts Opera Award) and Der Fliegende Holländer (Opera North), Otello (Bergen Opera) and Fidelio (Paris/Garsington Opera).
