Biography

French director and costume designer Laurent Pelly has directed on the world’s leading stages.  2025/26 Season highlights include new productions of Offenbach’s Robinson Crusoe for Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, The Bartered Bride for Teatro Real and Ariadne auf Naxos for the Glyndebourne Festival, as well as numerous revivals throughout the world of productions such as Falstaff, Eugene Onegin, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and La Fille du régiment. Other recent work includes Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Teatro Real, Royal Danish Opera, winner of the 2025 Premios XXI Best New Production), Gypsy (Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra national du Rhin), L’opera seria (Teatro alla Scala, Theater an der Wien), Il turco in Italia (Teatro Real, NNTT Tokyo), Lakmé (Opéra Comique, Opéra national du Rhin), La voix humaine/Les mamelles de Tiresias (Glyndebourne), La Cenerentola (Amsterdam, Geneva, Valencia, Los Angeles), Falstaff (Madrid, Brussels, Tokyo Nikikai Opera Foundation) and Le nozze di Figaro (Santa Fe Opera, Matsumoto). Recent theatre projects includes Goldoni’s L’Impresario de Smyrne (Scènes de la vie d’opéra), and the first French theatrical production of Mary Chase’s Harvey, with French actor Jacques Gamblin. Plans in 2026/27 include new productions of The Love for Three Oranges in Lyon and Un viaggio a Reims in Geneva, as well as many revivals of current productions.
